 Johnson Bender Asset Management was formed in 2016 by James Lee Johnson III and Albert F. Bender III. By combining their distinctly different, yet complementary, styles of analyzing public companies, they believe they are well qualified to help their clients pursue better after-tax, long-term investment returns.

 Mr. Johnson has been managing individual portfolios for his clients for more than 20 years at Stifel and leverages a number of proprietary relative value and dividend discount models to seek to uncover attractive investments.

 Mr. Bender has more than 30 years of experience as an investment banker and corporate lawyer, representing rapidly growing public companies in equity financings and merger and acquisition transactions. Through this experience, Mr. Bender has developed deep insight into key factors that may influence the success or failure of public companies.

 After more than 20 years of passionately sharing investment ideas and valuation methodologies, as well as discussing the teachings of legendary investors, including Warren Buffett, Charlie Munger, and Peter Lynch, Mr. Johnson and Mr. Bender decided to combine their complementary skill sets and instincts in an effort to build a lifelong investment partnership built on shared principles.

 Johnson Bender Asset Management will use Mr. Johnson's valuation models to identify compelling opportunities and will use Mr. Bender's legal and investment banking insights and due diligence techniques to further scrutinize these opportunities. Mr. Johnson and Mr. Bender share an investment philosophy that seeks to target long-term growth by investing in well-run businesses that have a history of generating substantial and durable free cash flow, have material barriers to entry, have generated above-average returns on invested capital, and can be acquired at a price that includes an acceptable “margin of safety.”

 In 2016, Johnson Bender Asset Management purchased a historic building in the heart of Ladue to house their new business. The building is located at 9630 Clayton Road, across from the Ladue Middle School at the intersection of Conway and Clayton Roads. The building, which decades ago was the Ladue Filling Station, has been extensively renovated and now provides a wonderful and convenient home for their clients.
